Delle Venezie, Italy
The Region
Friuli-Venezia Giulia, Trentino-Alto Adige and the Veneto are the three regions that are collectively known as the Tre Venezie, or "Three Venices". Located in the northeastern corner of Italy, Tre Venezie is known for producing Italy's premier white wine. Bordered on the north by the Julian Alps and Dolomite mountain ranges, and on the south by the Adriatic Sea, the Tre Venezie boasts some of the most ideal micro-climates for cool weather grape varieties such as Pinot Grigio. Wines produced from grapes sourced out of two or more of these three regions are referred to as Delle Venezie or "from the Venices".
The Wine
85% of the grapes sourced for Campanile Pinot Grigio are sourced from the Friuli region, while the remaining 15% is sourced from Trentino. This Campanile wine is a blend primarily of Pinot Grigio grapes, but small amounts of Chardonnay and Pinot Bianco were added to balance the structure and add creamy apple-vanilla flavors. Vinification in stainless steel tanks took place for 10 days at controlled temperatures. This cool fermentation was done in order to retain the varietal character of the Pinot Grigio grapes. The wine was matured for four months in stainless steel to retain freshness, balance, and good acidity in the finished wine.
